- 2 cups sharp white cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth and bubbly, about 1 minute.
- Gradually add milk while continually whisking until thickened, approximately 3 minutes. Stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and most of the white cheddar (reserve some for topping).
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, stirring gently until evenly coated.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Top with remaining cheddar and sprinkle breadcrumbs over it.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve hot.
