Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter cold and cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped apple
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Add to flour mixture and stir until just combined. Gently stir in chopped apple.
  4. Drop by 1/4 Cup-full onto prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 11-13 minutes, or until bottoms are golden brown and center is set.
  6. Remove to a wire rack and turn oven to broil.
  7. Prepare glaze. Whisk together confectioner's sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Brush a thin layer of glaze over fritters.
  8. Place under broiler. Broil for 2-4 minutes, or until tops start to turn golden and the glaze bubbles.
  9. Carefully remove baking sheet to a wire rack. Brush remaining glaze over the warm fritters.
  10. Allow glaze to harden and serve.

Notes
