Baked Ziti for a Crowd

Ingredients
  

Pasta and Sauce
  • 1 pound Ziti Pasta Or any tubular pasta
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 cans Crushed Tomatoes (28 oz each)
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Oregano
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Basil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
Cheese Mixture
  • 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Plus more for topping
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Parsley, chopped

Method
 

Prepare the Pasta
  1. Preheat the oven to 375?F (190?C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, saut? until translucent.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked pasta, sauce, ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley. Mix well.
Bake the Ziti
  1. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  2. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serve
  1. Let the baked ziti cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking. Just increase the baking time if baking from cold.
