Ingredients
  

For the Casserole
  • 1 lb Ground beef or ground turkey for a lighter option
  • 2 cups Cooked rice or quinoa for a gluten-free choice
  • 6 leaves Cabbage leaves green or savoy cabbage for best results
  • 1 medium Onion or shallots as an alternative
  • 2 cloves Garlic cloves or garlic powder if fresh isn't available
For the Sauce
  • 28 oz Crushed tomatoes or diced tomatoes for chunkiness
  • 15 oz Tomato sauce homemade sauce for an extra touch
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar or honey as a natural alternative
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce as a vegan substitute
For Seasoning
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning or fresh herbs like basil or oregano

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350?F.
  2. Saut? the onions and garlic in a skillet over medium heat until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Combine ground meat, cooked rice, and saut?ed onion mixture in a large bowl. Mix gently until well incorporated.
  4. Layer half of the chopped cabbage at the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  5. Add the meat mixture on top of the cabbage layer, spreading it evenly across the dish.
  6. Top with the remaining cabbage and pour tomato sauce over everything.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and golden brown on top.
