Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Icing
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk adjust for consistency
  • 1 teaspoon food coloring various colors

Method
 

Make the Cookie Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Shape and Bake Cookies
  1. Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C).
  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Use cookie cutters to cut out sombrero shapes and place them on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  5. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
Decorate Cookies
  1. In a bowl, mix powdered sugar with milk to create a smooth icing.
  2. Divide the icing into separate bowls and add food coloring as desired.
  3. Use piping bags to decorate the cooled cookies with colorful icing.
