Ingredients
  

Custard
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for custard
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Bread
  • 8 slices brioche or challah bread thick slices
Topping
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for caramelizing

Method
 

Prepare the Custard
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
Assemble the French Toast
  1. Arrange the bread slices in a baking dish and pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring all slices are soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C). Bake the soaked bread for 25-30 minutes until golden and set.
Caramelize the Sugar
  1. Sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over the top of the baked French toast. Use a blow torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy crust.
Serve
  1. Let the caramelized sugar cool for a minute before serving. Cut into portions and enjoy!
