Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon 7 Spice
  • 1 teaspoon sumac
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 head green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Rice for serving optional
  • Whole milk yogurt for serving optional

Method
 

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-6 minutes. Stir in the cumin, 7 Spice, sumac, salt, and pepper, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add the cabbage, cover and let simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice and parsley. Enjoy as-is or with warm pita, rice, and/or yogurt sauce.
