Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups flour divided
  • 2 Tbsp regular yeast
  • 0.25 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 egg
  • 0.33 cup melted butter or oil vegetable, coconut, canola, etc.

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • whisk

Method

  1. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour with yeast; stir together with a spoon until well combined.
  2. Add sugar and salt; mix well.
  3. Add hot water and stir to combine, then add the melted butter and the egg; mix completely until the butter and egg are no longer visible.
  4. Add the remaining 2 cups of flour and mix until incorporated; the dough will be sticky. Add a little more flour as needed and incorporate it into the dough with your hands for about 1 minute until smooth and not sticky.
  5. Shape the rolls as desired; for crescent rolls, roll the dough into a large circle (1/8-1/4 inch thick), cut into triangles, and roll from the larger end.
  6. Place on a lightly sprayed cookie sheet, tucking the tip of the triangle under the roll. Let rise for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Bake at 425?F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden brown on top.
  8. Brush with melted butter after baking.
