  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
Frosting Ingredients
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C). Grease and flour a baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the melted butter, molasses, eggs, and milk. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare the Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat together the powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
  3. Decorate with Easter-themed decorations as desired.
