Prepare the Pasta
- Cook the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Cheese Sauce
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese, mozzarella, mustard powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
Combine and Bake
- Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheese sauce, stirring until well coated.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the top of the macaroni.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
