Making the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy—this is your yeast activation moment!
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until it forms a shaggy dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes. Aim for a smooth, elastic texture; it should spring back when poked gently.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough gently to release air. Shape it into a loaf by rolling tightly from one end to another—this creates beautiful layers!
- Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan. Cover again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy and touching the sides of the pan.
- While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures an even bake for that perfect crust!
- Bake the loaf for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Brush with melted butter right after baking for an extra rich flavor.
