Method
Prepare the Topping
- Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into the bottom of the cake pan.
- Arrange the pineapple slices on top of the sugar mixture and place cherries in the center of each slice.
Make the Cake Batter
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in milk and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter over the pineapple topping in the cake pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
