  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk dairy-free options can be used
  • 2 tablespoons butter unsalted is best
  • 1 cup warm water
For the Topping (Optional)
  • 1 egg egg wash for brushing before baking
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds for sprinkling on top

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather Ingredients: Start by assembling all your ingredients, including flour, yeast, sugar, salt, water, and butter.
  2. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle in the yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well in the center for adding the yeast mixture later.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Pour the activated yeast mixture into the flour well along with melted butter. Stir gently until the dough begins to form.
  5. Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it?s smooth and elastic.
  6. First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  7. Shape Loaf: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Shape it into a loaf by rolling it tightly from one end to the other.
  8. Second Rise: Place your shaped loaf into a greased bread pan and cover again with a cloth. Let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  9. Preheat Oven: While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 350?F (175?C).
  10. Bake Bread: Bake your loaf in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  11. Cool Down: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
