Method
Making the Cookies
- Mix butter on high speed for 1 minute, add powdered sugar and vanilla, and mix until smooth and creamy.
- Turn the mixer on low speed and add flour. Mix just until combined.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Transfer the dough to a gallon-size plastic bag and roll out to ? inch thick or roll out between two sheets of parchment paper. Refrigerate until firm.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 325?F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut the dough into 2x4 inch rectangles to yield about 15 cookies.
- If the edges of the rectangles lose shape, press them back together.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
Decorating the Cookies
- Melt candy melts as directed on the package.
- Dip cookies in melted candy to cover about 1/2-2/3 of the cookie.
- Place candy eyes on wet cookies and transfer to the fridge to set quicker.
- Drizzle melted white chocolate over cookies to resemble bandages on the mummy.
- Melt chocolate chips and transfer to a small zip-lock bag for making mouths.
- Cover the top of the cookie with melted chocolate and sprinkle black or chocolate sprinkles.
- Let the decorations harden completely before lifting the cookies from the parchment paper.
