Ingredients

For the Tofu
  • 1 lb firm tofu Press the tofu first to remove excess moisture for a better texture.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Provides umami flavor; tamari is a great gluten-free alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Adds a nutty taste; can be substituted with olive oil if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For an aromatic base; fresh garlic can be used as well (1 clove, minced).
For the Sandwich
  • 4 slices whole grain bread Any crusty bread works well, including sourdough or ciabatta.
  • 1 cup spinach leaves Fresh greens add crunch and nutrition; arugula adds a peppery kick.
  • 1/2 avocado sliced Creamy texture that complements the tofu beautifully; feel free to use hummus instead for a different flavor.
  • 1 medium tomato Juicy slices enhance the freshness; any variety will do.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tahini Gives a creamy richness; you can replace it with yogurt for a tangy twist.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Brightens up the flavors; lime juice is a tasty alternative.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by pressing the tofu for about 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into thick slices, then marinate them in your favorite sauce for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, then add the marinated tofu slices. Saut? for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. While the tofu cooks, toast your bread of choice until golden and crispy.
  5. Layer the crispy tofu on one slice of toast, then stack fresh veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado on top.
  6. Place another slice of toasted bread on top to complete your sandwich masterpiece.
