Ingredients
  

Gratin Base
  • 4 large Vidalia onions sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for saut?ing
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruy?re cheese plus extra for topping
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme dried or fresh

Method
 

Prepare the Onions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375?F (190?C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced Vidalia onions and saut? until soft and translucent, about 10 minutes.
Assemble the Gratin
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine saut?ed onions, heavy cream, Gruy?re cheese, salt, pepper, and thyme.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with additional Gruy?re cheese.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
